Connections and transition rates

For when you go beyond the VRB area.

There are a few partnership schemes to make connections for travelling beyond the VRB area easy as possible for you.

For train journeys from or into the network area, you will always need a ticket from Deutsche Bahn or the Lower Saxony ticket area (Niedersachsentarif).

The regions

The Lower Saxony ticket area (Niedersachsentarif) offers common pricing for all rail companies in Lower Saxony. It applies to journeys within Lower Saxony and to journeys between Lower Saxony and Hamburg or Bremen. Tickets include connections in the price, so journeys by bus/tram/metro to the train station and from the train station to the final destination are included.

The Niedersachsen-Ticket (Lower Saxony ticket) is a special ticket offer: the more people travel with you, the more you save! Further information about the Lower Saxony ticket: www.niedersachsentarif.de

Whether by bus or rail, there are customer-friendly regulations for journeys to and from the Hanover region.

For travel on lines operated by the rail companies, Dedenhausen and Hämelerwald stations form the border between the VRB ticket area and the GVH ticket area. VRB tickets and pricing apply from or to these stations. Dedenhausen and Hämelerwald stations are considered as separate fare zones for calculating fares: Dedenhausen = fare zone 56, Hämelerwald = fare zone 55.

GVH regional fares

GVH regional fares apply to time-limited tickets for rail journeys into the GVH area from Peine and Vöhrum stations, as well as Calberlah, Gifhorn, Leiferde and Meinersen stations.

Regional fares apply to time-limited tickets for rail journeys into the GVH area from Calberlah, Gifhorn, Leiferde and Meinersen stations.

GVH tickets are not valid in buses, trams and local trains operated by VRB.

Bus journeys to the district of Göttingen (Harz transition rate)

In the Harz region, there is a transition rate on some routes between the districts of Goslar and Osterode am Harz. The Harz transition rate connects VRB with Verkehrsverbund Süd-Niedersachsen [Southern Lower Saxony Transport Network (VSN)]. The advantage for you is that you do not need tickets from both networks for a journey between the two districts, just one ticket at the transition rate.

The Harz transition rate is only valid on the bus routes of the following companies:

  • Kraftverkehrsgesellschaft mbH Braunschweig (KVG)
